It is second only to the flu as being responsible for absence from work. In order to better understand back pain, we must understand the difference between actual lower back pain and leg pain (lower extremity pain). Lower back pain is generally considered to be pain which stays in the low back while leg or lower extremity pain is pain which travels down the buttock, thigh, and leg.
